ECO Cultural Institute Hosts National Festival of ‘The Splendor of Wisdom and Art in the Thought of Ferdowsi’”

On 24th May 2024, the ECO Cultural Institute organized a commemorative event titled “The Glory of Wisdom and Art in the Thought of Ferdowsi” to honor the great Persian poet, Hakim Abolqasem Ferdowsi, and to celebrate the cultural significance of his masterpiece, the Shahnameh. The event was attended by prominent cultural, literary, and artistic figures from ECO member states and enthusiasts of Persian literature.

The ceremony featured distinguished speakers who shared their insights on the influence of Ferdowsi and the Shahnameh. Ms. Baran Nik Andish, a renowned Shahnameh reciter, captivated the audience with a powerful recital of excerpts from the Shahnameh, demonstrating the depth of meaning in this monumental work. Dr. Shah Mansoor, the master of ceremonies, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of the Shahnameh in the contemporary world by reciting selected verses. H.E. Dr. Saad Khan, President of the ECO Cultural Institute, delivered a speech emphasizing the central role of Ferdowsi in strengthening cultural bonds across the region. He underscored that the Shahnameh is not only part of Iran’s cultural heritage but also an invaluable source of inspiration for nations worldwide. Dr. Mozaffar Ahmadi, a renowned Shahnameh scholar and university professor, delivered a lecture titled “Wisdom in the Shahnameh,” where he analyzed the concept of rationality in Ferdowsi’s works and its relevance to modern issues. Dr. Taleb Masouleh also briefly spoke on the global impact of the Shahnameh and Ferdowsi’s influence on various cultural domains. Finally, Professor Mohammad Baqer Aghamiri, a prominent artist, discussed the influence of Ferdowsi’s legacy on Iranian art and culture, stressing the importance of continuing these artistic traditions today.

The event was further enriched by the theatrical performance “Seven Demises,” directed by Ms. Mojdeh Zamani. The performance creatively incorporated themes from the Shahnameh, engaging the audience in a captivating presentation of Ferdowsi’s wisdom and art. The event also included art exhibitions showcasing the works of esteemed Iranian artists. Among the exhibits were exquisite miniature paintings by Professors Mohammad Baqer Aghamiri and Amir Hassan Aghamiri, depicting scenes from the Shahnameh. In addition, exhibitions of reverse glass painting and mirror paintings based on Shahnameh motifs were presented, showcasing the works of Master Behzad Naghash and Ms. Masoumeh Dowstali, combining traditional art techniques with contemporary interpretations.

The event concluded with a ceremony honoring the outstanding artists in the fields of performing and visual arts. Attendees expressed great enthusiasm for the exhibited works and reiterated the importance of preserving and promoting this cultural heritage in today’s world. The impact of Ferdowsi and the Shahnameh on literature, art, and global culture was a central theme throughout the event.
