Condolence Message by Dr. Saad Khan, President of the ECO Cultural Institute
on the Demise of Eminent Iranian Poet Mohammadali Bahmani
The ECI expresses its deep condolences on the demise of Mohammadali Bahmani, one of the most talented poets of our time. Late Bahmani was one of the most renowned ghazal (a traditional form of Persian poetry) and song lyricists in the Persian-speaking world. He had extensive collaborations with numerous musicians and singers including across the region.
Poet Bahmani authored several books, such as "Baghe Lal" (Silent Garden), "Dar Bivazni", "Amianeha", "Gisu, kolah, kaftar", "Sometimes I Miss Myself", "Dehati", "The Poet, Worth Hearing", "Love Is", "Neyestan", "This House Has Incombustible Words", and "I Am Still Alive and Thinking of Ghazal", which have been translated and published in Iran and some ECO countries.
Among Bahmani's works, the book "Sometimes I Miss Myself" is particularly famous and has had a significant impact on the growth of contemporary ghazals. Love is one of the primary themes of his ghazals. Many believe that his ghazals are indebted to the style and approach of Nima Yushij. As he himself said: "My body is a ghazal, but my soul is entirely Nimayi in the mirror of the combination of this beautiful face."
I offer my condolences to the cultural community on the passing of this distinguished and unparalleled ghazal poet and extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family.
